Another Lunch Convo

Today we were at lunch and it was uncharacteristically and uncomfortably quiet. Then someone posed the question: what new movies are on DVD does anyone know? Crickets... Then someone else pulled out the iphone and looked up the new movies on DVD and started rattling them off. He paused after each and everyone took a turn saying something like "yeah" or "wasn't that good" or "thought that was just in the theaters". Was a great lunch.

  1. 13 votes on the latest poll, but only 8 followers? BM, you need to up the advertising. Have you thought about Twitter?

As to your post, that sounds like an awkward lunch! I had a lunch one time where everyone just sat around with their pants off talking about brussel sprouts!!! Talk about awkward!!!!

  2. Also, which movies were consistently given "Thumbs Up" from the work colleagues? I usually find that people I only see in the work setting are the ones I rely on most for popular culture advice.

  3. in this economy, you should be happy and grateful to have a job, let alone one that gives lunch breaks. As such, I find it incredibly spoiled and American-like of you to be complaining when there are men in women in ghettos across the country (i.e. Thousand Oaks CA) who would kill to have the luxury of any job, particularly the kind where you sit around discussing dvds... shame. on. you.

  4. @ Ryan I agree with your post!!! Fresh, insightful, invigorating, and real. I don't think this blog has seen this kind of activity and honesty since its inception. Thank you for rejuvenating the progressive spirit of "Things"

On a side note, as a follow-up to this story I will be organizing a protest of Whole Foods, excuse me, Whole Profits, this weekend. Let me know if I can count you in.

  5. @ DR/1: Twitter is for fascists. It's been proven. But your lunch is worse than mine, I concede that.

@ DR/2: Mostly independent french film (some would say the only real film there is).

@ Ryan: 1) Welcome, 2)In fact your interpretation of the events that happened yesterday around 12:30 PM were incorrect. This was an enjoyable event for me, that was a nice break from hanging out on the net and getting paid for it. Regarding the poor souls in TO, I have nothing but respect for them.

  6. @All: Re: Ryan. I think we have a real up-and-comer in the progressive blogosphere among us folks! I haven't felt this invigorated since chanting "Si Se Puede" and burning Goerge Bush effigies in the streets of Caracas with Uncle Chavez, Papa Obama, et al!
