new hilighters

The firm just got some new hilighters and wanted to share:

oscars

Was pretty nice sitting htere, watching some of my favorite documentaries (Banksy anyone?) and foreign films get some recognition in the mainstream - as opposed to just on message boards all over the internet. Also, was great to see that the movies I saw closely lined up with those that the academy enjoyed. Was nice to see all these great artists dressed to the nines and really had an old hollywood aura (Greta Garbo anyone?). Most of the awards I agreed with - bar sound editing and costume design - so more so than the grammys I was happy. But then it hit me out of nowhere - this whole thing is a sham.

Who are these people and what have they done to describe what they have done as "transformative" or "beautiful" or "glorious"? They are entertainers. They produce a form of entertainment that we can enjoy when we want something fun to do. They are less talented professional athletes. When Kellen Winslow tried to make his accomplishes more than just about a sporting achievement, people were appalled. When Colin Firth is allowed to go on for five minutes - speaking in something other than prose - and trying to humbly explain the accomplishments that were the King's Speech - people were on the brink of tears. It was a movie. He is not fighting for human rights, savings children in Africa, curing diseases or anything that resembles these things. He essentially puts on some makeup and does a song and dance for us for a couple hours, and then we go on our way.

What a joke...

hot joint

This song makes me think about life. I hope it will do the same for you. I might start posting alot more music here because alot of the youth don't really know what's going on as far as real music etc.

Check it out, and feel it... don't listen.... feel...

game and gift

Went to the UCLA vs. ASU game last night. UCLA basketball games are probably my favorite thing in the world to do (you may hear me say that again at some other point, or possibly previously, but what I am doing here is showing everyone the value of Max(funthingsIdo), which is a function that may change as time changes, I am still being consistent). Went with my dad and stole some seats that I didn't pay for, really compromising any sense of sanctity of tickets' rights (or encouraging chaos). That being said, was a great showing by UCLA, and given USC's win vs. UofA last night, UCLA will play UofA for the Pac-10 title on Saturday!

More importantly to all of this, my father brought me a gift from my mother. It is a hooded sweatshirt. Not just any hooded sweatshirt, however, it is a Victorville hooded sweatshirt. As many of you know, I am very proud of where I am from, as it really shaped who I am today. It is definitely my new favorite article of clothing - taking the place of my prior favorite article of clothing (I won't disclose what it was!!). Wore it around my house last night actually and felt real good. Its from Wallgreens on Amethyst and Bear Valley. Anyway, most of you who know me outside of the blogosphere will see me wearing it alot. Actually, I had a semi-nightmare last night that I lost it while trying to get on a plane in Detroit. Haven't quite decrypted that one yet.

Go UCLA! Go Liberalism! Go immigrants!

The duchess

A great film yall. What it does is semi-empowers women, but at the same time makes it clear that men are in charge of what women can and can't do. Does her husband get with most of London? Yes. Does he hook up with the duchess' bff? Yes. Does he get the best friend to live with them even though shes hooking up with the Duke and everyone knows it? Yes. Does the duchess raise his illegitimate child? Yes.

But then the duchess reconnects with a dude from her past and they fall in love and do the nasty but then the Duke finds out and absolutely regulates. Says he will surely ruin her lovers' life etc. if they don't cut it out. (Forgot to mention - does the bff of the duchess that is getting it on with the duke on the reg eat dinner with them every night at the same table? Yes.) The duke really puts his foot down and you have to respect him for that.

Pretty sick movie, pretty deep and shit. Love, lust and the whole nine.

Pimping out your daughter to a 40 year old man? Yes.

I think we can see what the liberal propaganda machine has done to our country...

sales goals

You know you are working at a great company and a bright future (not to knock anyone else) when you essentially have "sales goals" at your job. Me? I have said goals and it is a funny thing to talk about to others, which is mostly why most of you don't even know I have them. I have to do a certain amount of work each month in terms of the reports I do. Each of them get billed for a certain amount, and I have a personal goal on a value that I am supposed to bill.

Maybe it is more common than I think at jobs to have something of this type, but it is always interesting to me when it comes down to the end of "the billing period" and everyone (me included) is scrambling to reach some figure.

thought experiments

I read alot of books. First and foremost just wanted to make that point and that I am very well read on most topics - particularly breakthrough work in many fields in the sciences. This includes physics, maths, and probability and statistics. That being said, this post is about the practice of "thought experiments." Newton , Einstein etc were great at this and regularly utilized this method of furthering and directing their research in a very acute manor.

I have began to utilize it myself - quite a bit - although I have adjusted the process slightly in order to fit my needs. My process usually goes like this: think about something cool, worthwhile, or otherwise desirable to do - and imagine all aspects of said activity or event. Once you have done this, really analyzed and walked through in a quite exhaustive manor said activity, you no longer have to physically do the alluded to "activity."

The benefits of this process are great for many reasons. The number one being that if something resembling what you ran through in your "thought experiment" comes up in conversation, you can respond that you have "thought about" doing whatever activity or event that is being talked about - while actually convincing yourself that you did more than just "think" about doing the activity. You had a "thought experiment" - a much deeper experience. Number two reason is that you don't actually have to do anything that is difficult, involved, or requires you to do something other than sit there and think. Many of these things are alot easier than the theoretical experiment you have ran through in your head - and the implementation and carrying out of the experiment may in fact be much more nuanced than thinking through it is.

Point is, it allows you to feel a sense of accomplishment without actually doing anything.

lunch at ralphs

Its real good. If you go to one that is called "Fresh Fare" they have everything you could possibly want. Absolutely amazing. Prices? Great. Selection of olives from all over the Mediterranean? Yes. Not sure what else you could want from a place to eat. And the good thing is, it's a good place to go with co-workers because you don't have to have the agonizing experience of trying to find somewhere that everyone wants to go to - precisely because they have everything!

In other news, the party of lincoln continues to slash spending while attacking the deficit .001% at a time! Great job guys! Almost there! (whose the progressive party now when someone should be praised for doing nothing of value...)

neighbor kids

Every few days I sit on my balcony and trim my facial hair (sorry apartment below us!). A man and his two young kids are led down the stairs of what I believe to be condos behind where I live by a mother. She usually is carrying lunch for the elementary aged kids, or something for the hard working husband. Sometimes she even carries her young daughters backpack. This morning something horribly wrong happened.

I see the two kids, my friends, walking with their heads down, without backpacks down the road. Are they walking to school today? Did their mother send them to look for their father after a night of debauchery? Something was amiss. And then they simply turned around from their walk and returned back to where they lived. Maybe their mother sent them to walk a lap as punishment for not completing their piano lesson. As they neared their front door a van pulled around and the lady driving waved. I assumed this was their mother that I saw so often but it was not. Where was there father who would drive them to school everyday? Where was their mother? Well finally the mother emerged from around the corner, backpacks in hand. Today, it appears, they will walk with their mother to school.

All is well, I suppose - the kids got to school. But why didn't they follow their father into the gold corolla and drive to school with their mother waving as they drove away? Was it her fault? Was that wave also a signal to a man watching nearby that all was clear to engage in a tryst of lust now that the man of the house went out to make a living? Did the father die?

I will get to the bottom of this.

Im back

Do you know what? I'm back. After seeing everything thats been happening in Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain etc. I decided I needed to come back and keep my voice heard. Well here I am. I run into people in the streets and they give me a desperate stare and just ask "Why?" I couldn't give them an answer that would quell their concerns, but what I could do was make the comeback - not wearing the 45- but wearing the same thing I was before. I am going through a tumultuous time of my life, trying to find a new job, trying to find a new path, trying to find a new aim to focus my life on, and denying you guys an incite to this journey is fair to no one.

Do we know where Obama's birth certificate is? No.

Do we know whether our childhood heroes were all steroid goons? No.

Do we know why the caged bird sings? Yes.

And so goes this blog...

I'm back...

change in product design

Me and my two friends from work go to famima at about 3:15-3:45 every day to get some coffee or snacks or other things. Mostly its just to go outside for a bit and walk around.

Noticed today that Naked juice brand changed their bottles. They used to be matte, and now are more polished/shiny.

I got some cheese flavored pretzels.
