business acumen

Today I want to do something a little different. I want to teach you guys some things. I know there is a particular follower of the blog who has been doing some freelance startup business consulting - so he may or may not have alot more to add in this arena. Nevertheless, I thought i might contribute something, and then let the comments section really solidify the process. Please see the following graph:

The area I really want to focus on is directly east of the y-axis. This is the area where you come up with a breakthrough idea, before other people do. In all of your business lives this is a kind of rule of thumb and you'll thank me later.

  1. I think a huge part of business start-up comes down to two things: 1) entrepreneurial spirit and 2) vision. (Which some could argue go hand-in-hand.)

  2. dinky once told me something about growing a business/coming up with the "breakthrough idea" that i hope he doesn't mind me sharing with the group:

"if your selling t-shirts and other apparel in east los angeles out of the back of your van, maybe you should look to expand."

this really resonated with me and i hope other readers will be able to share in his wisdom.

  3. @ DR: Thanks for contributing. A question, if I am trying to bring a product to market that I believe is truely unique do I a) enhance my marketing exposure first or b) make sure I am first to get this product to market?

    Thanks.

  4. Great question Blog Master (I don't know how to refer to you haha!!!). But, to be honest I have always been a disciple of the "enhacing the market" first approach. I believe that the market can be saturated with people flooding the market with saturated products in a saturated market. But, if you can excel at marketing you can stand out in said saturated market with said saturated goods.
